The Tulsa 4th of July 2016 Dilemma
We don’t ever miss the big fireworks show on the river.
FreedomFest is always an impressive display of patriotism and explosives, but somewhere along the way we figured out that sitting on the curb at Riverside wasn’t necessary. So we started moving back. Then we moved back some more the next year.
Eventually finding ourselves at a little park near 18th and Cincinnati, we thought “Okay, maybe this is too far…” The privacy was nice, though. It was almost like having our own private fireworks show.
We discovered a new option this year…
A friend of ours dropped a hint about a pretty unbeatable place to watch the fireworks show while we were out at brunch last weekend. “We’re doing ‘Red, White and Blue With A View’ again this year,” he said, “this is actually our third year in a row to go.” Wondering how I hadn’t heard of this myself, I plead for a little more detail.
Our friend — we’ll call him “Leo” for now — told us all about the food, drinks, music, and general atmosphere on the rooftop of The Mayo Hotel on the 4th of July, but the point that really came through loud and clear was how impeccable the view of the fireworks show was.
It didn’t take much convincing for Leo to have the few of us without family plans interested in the going. He told us it wasn’t expensive so we looked it up. At $55 a head, we found that more than fair for what you get (food, drink, party, view), so we decided that we’re in for 2016.
After calling up The Mayo to talk to them a little more about the “Red, White and Blue With A View”4th of July bash, we’re even more elated to come away with a pair of tickets for the event that The Mayo generously donated for a giveaway for our readers! You can get signed up to win here (Giveaway ends 7/16/16 — don’t miss your chance!) By the way, this event is — as we mentioned earlier — on the rooftop of The Mayo Hotel at The Penthouse Bar, so you must be 21 or over to enter.
On top of all of this, the awesome folks at The Mayo gave us a special promo code (MAYO4) for our readers to use to reserve a room at an insanely inexpensive price on the 4th of July: $99. Can you believe that? I put two out-of-town friends up for the night in separate rooms at The Mayo recently and it was just shy of $400 all together. What can you do, though — right? Seeing as how the rooms are expected to book up pretty fast, I should mention that when the rooms are gone, they’re gone. Purchases are non-refundable and non-transferable and payment is due at the time of booking.
Anywho — this shindig includes a dinner, a complimentary festive cocktail in a special Mayo Hotel cup, and exclusive rooftop access to watch the whole fireworks show from there. How amazing is that going to be!?
See you all on the rooftop.
